What an ugly desk A man thought disgusted At what his life had become This small little desk That he barely fit within, No pictures How could he He’s rarely seen his family. He sits at his desk Trying to remember A truth he had forgotten What his true job was A princess’s knight. A princess he loved dearly A princess he needed to see. So he left the life Leaving behind only an ugly desk Stopping only to get the gift His princess deserved And speeding to the life he wish he had A little girl sat alone Too sad for one so young Writing a single birthday wish Daddy, I wrote you a song, but you're never here to hear it. I miss when you used to tuck me in bed, and kiss my head, and call me your little princess. Mommy said your eyes are blue, but I guess I forgot what they look like. She said that's why mine are, too and she says that I'm a lot like you- I wish you were here to see it. Won't you come home soon? Love, Your Little Princess He raced with time A gift so small in his lap Knowing it would fit perfectly in her fragile hands And her eyes would shine As she unwrapped this small perfection He would finally see Her beautiful smile break free She would be his princess again And together they would chase dragons, But as he followed these dreams He lost reality. He never saw the green light turn red Or the pair white lights That crashed into his side The only thing he saw Was a gift so small It would fit perfectly In a princess’s hands. Daddy, I sang you your song and mommy said you heard it in heaven but all I saw was dirt and cloudy skies and people in black and stones that looked blue like your eyes but I don’t remember. Everyone was crying, and they told me I was being strong, and they missed you. But I told them you were coming home soon. I wish you were here to see it. Won’t you come home soon? Love, Your Little Princess
Oh My... This is so beautiful!! Yet tragic... Is perfect, the love of a little child for her father, the non-understanding of a child in fron of a situation like that, the father that only wants to be with his little girl but is imprisoned in his office--- Just perfect.
I'm not going to lie, your poem really moved me to tears. I believe you truelly captured the innocents of the child and the struggles of a overly hard working father would have. This is a master Piece.
I thought of my husband who's daughter lives with his ex in another city. I would if he feels like the dad in this poem. Too bad the courts think vagina= better parent. Poor kid is living with another of mommy's boyfriend's and his mom and his grandma and creepy brother. Ugh....
